How much does an onion weigh? It’s a silly question — onions come in all shapes and sizes, and if you want an accurate onion measurement, you should probably just use a scale. Alternatively, you can ask the X/Twitter account Onion Weigher.

On it, the Onion Weigher is prompted with images of onions. They are then asked to guess the weight of the onion, at which point their answer is compared with the onion’s true weight. I know, we really are living in the future we’ve always dreamed of.

You might think this skill is stupid. You’re right. Despite this, it’s pretty impressive to watch the maestro work.

For example, in this post, the Onion Weigher provides a fairly accurate guess, earning them the title they’ve already given to themselves. Amusingly, they say that they are, in their estimation, not actually that good at guessing the weights of onions; it’s just something they do.

Still, that hasn’t stopped them from trying — or getting fairly close to the right answer while doing so. One user posted an onion that Onion Weigher said weighed around 95 grams. The true weight was 109 grams.

Before you go to their account looking solely for onion content, they also post about a lot of other topics, e.g. various root vegetables, Jeffrey Epstein, etc. But if you’ve got an onion that needs weighing and you don’t have a scale around, Tweet a picture at them — let’s be honest, you’ve got nothing better to do.
